BENTONITES FOR THE ABSORPTION OF MYCOTOXINS

Fungi contaminate different substrates, among which are found grains and raw materials used in compound feed. High temperatures and moisture during farming, harvesting, transportation and storage result in fungi proliferation and mycotoxins production.

Mycotoxins are toxins produced by toxic fungi, mainly of the type Aspergillus, Fusarium and Penicillium. The most relevant from the animal feed point of view are Aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1, G2, M1, M2), Fumonisins, Ochratoxins (A), Trichothecenes (T2, DON, DAS), Zearalenone and Citrinin. Bentonite based absorbents activate in contact with digestive juices, forming a stable complex with the mycotoxins in the intestines which is eliminated with the feces. In addition, they facilitate the conglomeration of feed, they behave as desiccants and fluidizing agents and do not compete with other minerals and nutrients present in the diet.

Description: Sodium montmorrillonite

Chemical composition: Hydrated silicate with general formula (Na, CA); (Mg, Al)2 (OH)2Si4O19.11H2O, containing quartz, feldspar, and gypsum impurities.
