P-13.5 TYPE DRILLING MUD BENTONITE

BENTONITE FOR DRILLING MUDS

Even though the composition of drilling muds has undergone several significant changes over the years (they were first used in the beginning of the 20th century), this remains one of the most important markets for bentonite.

Drilling muds must fulfill the following functions:

  • Extract cuttings and keep the bottom of the wellbore clean
  • Cool the drilling tool
  • Control formation pressures and wellbore stabilization
  • Suspend cuttings
  • Transmit hydraulic power to the tricone
  • Help support the drill string
  • Make it possible to add densifier agents

P-13.5 TYPE DRILLING MUD BENTONITE

Description:Sodium montmorrillonite

Chemical composition: Hydrated silicate with general formula (Na, CA); (Mg, Al)2 (OH)2Si4O19.11H2O, containing quartz, feldspar, and gypsum impurities.
